Notes from the Bitterlake Urban Village

Prior to starting Great City, I was president of the Greenwood Community Council and active with the Northwest District Council. One of the people I greatly enjoyed meeting and working with is Richard Dyksterhuis. I believe he may be a reincarnated Wobbly. He is a tireless fighter for the common folk, and a prolific e-mail writer.

I found today's message about construction and walkways fairly poignant, and pointed. I thought I would share it.

What's with Bert and Ernie?

No, a whole bunch of folks did not simultaneously think that having Bert and Ernie was a great profile photo. We decided we didn't like the default "silhouette", so we programmed a new one.

It is a gentle urging to post your own own profile photo. And watch out, we are likely to change it about once a week, so who knows who (or what) you will be next. But it will always be nice.

I think this is a great site. It seems to be the kind of social networking site that sustainability people have been trying to make. I certainly think SCALLOPS groups would benefit- we also have a SCALLOPS ning but that is meant mostly for SCALLOPS members. I have passed this site along, and think it will spread!
